The Mirador de los Llanillos, also called the Mirador de Juviles, is a viewpoint in the municipality of Juviles, in the Alpujarra of Granada, Spain. The Starlight Foundation accredited it as a Starlight Stellar Park on May 6, 2024. Stellar Parks are open air viewpoints set up to encourage people to watch the sky.
The Starlight Foundation describes the site as a small plateau ringed by chestnut trees. Much of the Juviles municipality lies inside Sierra Nevada National Park, in a zone the foundation says has very little light pollution. The Sierra Nevada Observatory is in the same mountain range. Local astronomy groups already use the viewpoint for their activities.
Our light pollution map estimates Bortle 6 at the coordinates we use, which is brighter than the foundation's description suggests. We found no published sky quality meter readings for the site, so treat both as rough guides. The town of Juviles lists the site on its website.
The foundation's announcement does not cover facilities, parking or access hours. We could not find those details in an official source. Plan a daytime visit first if you have not been there before.
June, May and July give the most core hours in our data. The core peaks about 24 degrees above the southern horizon. The chestnut trees around the plateau may limit the lowest part of the view, so scout your framing in daylight.
